Balenciaga Senior Co-op

“Balenciaga helped me to prepare for any future career by teaching me about everything that is needed to run a successful business.”

Fashion Merchandising major James Totten did his Senior Co-op at Balenciaga as a wholesale intern.

With a background as a personal shopping assistant at Barneys New York, this position was the right fit for James.

He performed a variety of tasks, including acting as the liaison with the company’s production facilities in Europe. His favorite part of his internship was working with models and buyers during market week. He took model measurements, dressed them, and ran clothing from the changing room to the showroom floor. James also worked closely with the retail director on various projects, including helping with a trunk show at the Carlyle Hotel. Another important part of James’s hands-on education was learning how to sell to buyers.

Although James’s specific career plans are still uncertain, he is committed to a career in the fashion industry. There are many things he still wants to learn and experience. Yet he does know that he will utilize the experiences from his Senior Co-op at Balenciaga in any future job he takes on.
