About Ellianna Placas
Ellianna Placas is the Fashion Director of Essence, an iconic publication with a 40-year history covering fashion, beauty and lifestyle. She began her career working with Sybilla Patrizzi, styling catalogues for Saks and Bloomingdales, commercials, print ads, industrials and celebrities. She went on to become Fashion and Beauty Director at House Beautiful, and was then hired by O, The Oprah Winfrey Magazine. While there, she worked on the wardrobe for Ms. Winfrey’s top-selling cover.
After leaving O, Ellianna freelanced for a number of magazines, including Real Simple, New York, and More. During this time she also began personal styling for a diverse group of clients from the entertainment world, as well as corporate, fashion and travel executives, photographers, and medical professionals, including Suze Orman and Universal Records recording artists.
Going on to US Weekly, then Star, Ellianna was responsible for celebrity and home styling, along with covering market trends and celebrity awards shows and events. She then worked for Life & Style Weekly for the better part of three years as the Fashion and Home Director. Managing a staff of 10, she produced approximately 20 pages of fashion coverage per week.
During that time, after years of working as an editor and vintage shopping for herself, Ellianna decided to turn compliments on her wardrobe into something more tangible. So she conceptualized and created a resort clothing line called Garconiera. In its first season Garconiera was stocked by Saks, Scoop, Henri Bendel and Harvey Nichols.
Ellianna has produced fashion segments and been featured as an expert for a variety of network and cable television, including E! Entertainment Television, Extra, Today, Fox, CBS, and CW11. She is also regularly featured in pieces on AOL and in the Daily News.
