Top Photographers to Teach Photography for the Visual Merchandising Professional at LIM College this Summer


First-of-its-kind Continuing Ed course to begin July 16

Leading industry professionals Michael Creagh and Richard Cadan are teaming up to teach a first-of-its-kind, Continuing Education course at LIM College this summer. Photography for Visual Merchandising Professionals will teach both aspiring visual merchandisers and those already working in the field how to photo-document, organize, and present their work.

Participants will learn the art and science of photography from two of the industry’s best. Topics will include: fundamentals of photography, choice of cameras, F-stops, shutter speeds, ISO, tripods, lens choice, color balance, and light sources; ambient lighting, studio lighting, and photographing work in its environment; close-up/macro photography, and photographing details; using Photoshop CS5, and the use of social media. Class projects will include still-life and close-up photography, as well as window and interior photography.

Michael Creagh (pictured) is a New York fashion photographer who does both editorial and commercial work for high-profile clients including MTV, Club Monaco, Ecko, Microsoft, Samsung, Sony Music, Warner Bros Music, McDonald’s, Disney, Wrigley’s, W, Elle, Hamptons, O Magazine, The New York Post’s Page 6 Magazine, Bill Blass, Joseph Abboud, Cacharel, Susana Monaco, Prabal Gurung, Dillard’s, McCann Erickson, Leo Burnett, Ogilvy and Mather, the Fashion Institute of Technology, and Vidal Sassoon.

Michael’s photography has been recognized by many international juries, including the IPA International Photo Awards in NYC 2008 and 2009, the Black and White Awards in London 2008 and 2009, and PX3 Prix de la Photographie Awards in Paris 2008. His book Editorial Stories took second place in the prestigious Photography Book Now Competition, and most recently, he was named as a 2010 Hassleblad Masters Finalist. Michael’s work has also garnered media attention from China to Eastern Europe to Latin America, including a 10-page cover story and interview in the May 2009 edition of Digital PhotoPro magazine.

Richard Cadan is one of the world’s top architectural photographers, with more than 20 years of experience. He has photographed projects for Saks Fifth Avenue, Hermes of Paris, Christian Dior, Macy’s, Lord & Taylor, as well as many architectural and design firms worldwide.

His global approach to photography has won numerous awards, and his work has been published in books and magazines throughout the world. Richard specializes in retail imagery, shooting window displays with unparalleled insight and clarity. In this course, he will give students insight into how to control lighting, reduce reflections, and properly document window displays for magazine, print, and award submissions.
