Join The Writer's Circle: Kick-Off Meeting Sept. 6
A student club for magazine, online and literary writers
Writer's Circle Kick-Off Meeting
Sept. 6 during the lunch hour in the Writing Center (Maxwell Hall - 216 East 45th St.)
All are welcome. Pizza will be served.
The Writer’s Circle is both a club and a workshop. Just as professional writers join groups to offer one another support for their work, productive feedback, and networking and career support, the LIM College Writer’s Circle will offer peer support, a place to brainstorm and experiment, and a group that will comment upon one another’s writing face-to-face and on the LIM College website blogs.
LIM College students will have a “built-in” network of other writers, a convenient entrée to writing for the College’s publications, and an audience for one another’s work that creates high-quality feedback.
The second component of the Writer’s Circle is workshop practice. Professors Clark, Deming and Takehana will assign students brief—and fun—exercises, so that members, by the end of each term, will have taken the equivalent of a short writing course.
In the near term, the purpose of the club is to furnish content, and improve the quality of it, for Fashion Sense, SKYSCAPE, and an online magazine to be developed by the group itself. By the end of the year, we want as many members of the Writer’s Circle as possible to publish outside of LIM in commercial publications online or in print.
Another purpose of the club is to develop more writing—at a publishable level—that involves analytical thinking and goes beyond the fashion world to large issues of marketing, visual culture, technological change, globalization, ecological and other international movements.
Meetings will be held every other week throughout the academic year. Seven are scheduled for both the Fall and Spring. Meeting dates: September 13, September 27, October 11, October 25, November 8, November 22, December 6.
