Assistant Director, Math Center
O’Rita Johnson joined LIM College in 2005 as an adjunct faculty member in the Math, Finance & Technology department and Math Center tutor. In 2008 she was named as the Assistant Director of the Math Center. Among the courses she teaches are Foundations of Mathematics, Elements of Algebra, Introduction to Algebra, Math for the Health Sciences, Intermediate Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus with Analytical Geometry and Business Calculus.
As the Math Center’s Assistant Director she has developed course syllabi for remedial mathematics courses, created departmental exams, helped launch tutoring at the residence hall, and assisted in the development of the College’s Business Calculus courses.
Professor Johnson is also an adjunct lecturer in the Mathematics Department at Borough of Manhattan Community College and has been actively involved in programs there designed to foster high school and college students’ interest in math and science.
A member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Mathematics Association of America, Professor Johnson holds a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics from City College, City University of New York. She also completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with a minor in Computer Engineering at City College and holds an Associate in Applied Science degree in Computer Science from New York City Technical College. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Mathematics Education at Columbia University's Teachers College and plans to pursue research in the area of remedial mathematics.
In her spare time Professor Johnson enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading and watching movies.
