America Ferrara (Ugly Betty) stars in 2002 movie about body image, cultural/ethnic identity, and relationships
America Ferrara, best known for her role on ABC's Ugly Betty show, stars in this 2002 film that was the Audience Award winner at 2002's Sundance Film Festival. Ferrara plays a smart and determined Mexican-American living in an East L.A. barrio who works at her sister's dress factory, in near sweat-shop conditions, while attending high school. She wants to go to college but her mother sees her future as a seamstress in the dress factory. It's a coming of age story that ropes in dress-making, body image, cultural identity, and family relations into a critically-acclaimed package that also put America Ferrara in the public eye.
The film will be screened at Maxwell Hall on Wednesday, October 14th from 1-2:30pm. Contact Rosie Baez for more information.
