About LIM College
Short Takes - LIM College student blog
Here are student perspectives on Alexander McQueen, clubs that may not be as hot as they claim, shopping around Manhattan for vintage, launching one’s own product line while still in college, interning at fashion magazines, the state of the economy, excellent films beyond the multiplex, music, and everything and anything in New York. We invite you to comment on these blogs, written by current LIM College students, and interact with their universe...

Graduation Parties the Easy Moderately Priced Way
We’ve seen more than enough tacky but very expensive teen parties on MTV. Just because right now money may be tight does not mean that this year's LIM College Graduation parties need to be a bust.
Out of state guests might enjoy a genuine New York Pizza party. Roma’s on the Upper East Side can provide one, with proximity to the LIM College Residence Hall, Central Park and shopping to walk off the pizza pounds. Brick oven pizza, as served at John’s in Greenwich Village and other restaurants, might suit NYC natives who can argue over who serves the best pizza for hours.
If a sweet tooth is your vice, Dylan’s Candy shop, on 59th Sreet and Lexington, will make your guests “ohh and ahh” at the wall-to-wall candy selection. What’s more, the store’s philosophy is to merge sweets and fashion, so you’ll find a wide range of beauty products there to try.
Having an adults-only celebration? Many NYC clubs are free for those over 21 if the party arrives before midnight. My favorite club is Esculita’s on 39th Sreet, with great music, a friendly atmosphere, and a drag show.
A graduation party in New York does not have to double your student debt. You just have to be willing to indulge your inner craving for a slice, a little childhood regression, or take a walk on the cross-dressing wild side with family and friends.

New York Magazine (like Zagat’s) rates pizzerias every year

Melissa, you are so creative! What wonderful ideas you have for graduation parties. I wonder what yours is going to be like? I was hoping that a trip to the King Tut Exhibit would be included in the festivities since the exhibit is in NYC!

Parties my favorite. I'm pretty simple to entertain give me some good pizza a fruity drink along with family and friends it doesn't get better than that. Too many people are stressed over throwing the biggest, talk of the town, of the year party that they forget to remember what it's all about. Not the glitz or the glamour, it's about celebrating what you achieved and to celebrate that with the ones you love. Great article.

This article gave me insight on what might be fun for a Graduation Party or after celebration. It was a wonderful idea to have a pizza. NYC is famous for its pizza I had forgotten that many guests coming to celebrate might not have had NYC pizza. What fun I think thats the best idea I have heard yet.

Great ideas, love the one about the drag show. Two Boots is another favorite pizzeria of mine, and with their quirky pizza names such as "The Dude", "The Night Tripper", "Cleopatra Jones", and many more makes it even more fun.

A drag show may reveal completely unsuspected talents in the relatives if there is an audience-participation part.

Great idea about Dylan's Candy Bar! Another fun grad party idea: buy cheap candy online in your school's colors (LIM: red, purple, indigo) and set up them in vases and other dishes, and let guests help themselves to their favorite treats in a candy-buffet!
