Mendelson will also be presented with LIM College’s Distinguished Achievement Award at the ceremony and the College also plans to bestow upon him an honorary Doctor of Commercial Science degree in recognition of his many accomplishments.

Mendelson was appointed as President/CEO of women’s luxury sportswear brand Ellen Tracy in 2008. He came to Ellen Tracy from Ann Taylor, where he headed their New Concept division.

A graduate of the State University of New York at Albany, Mendelson started his career as part of Macy’s Executive Training Program, thus beginning a journey through more than 20 years of experience in the sportswear business, both in retail and wholesale. Through the Macy’s Executive Training Program he became the Sales Manager at Macy’s East, which led to positions as an Assistant Buyer and then Buyer for Bonwit Teller.

Mendelson went on to become Divisional Merchandise Manager, and then General Merchandise Manager, for Ann Taylor. After six years with that company he accepted the role of Sales and Marketing Executive Vice President for Leon Max and later took on that same role for Laundry by Shelli Segal. In 1998, he was named as President of Elie Tahari, where he remained for three years before joining Jones Apparel Group.

He served as President of Nine West Apparel starting in 2001, adding Jones New York Collection in 2002. In 2003, Mendelson assumed responsibility for Anne Klein. In 2005, he was promoted to Chief Merchandising Officer for all Better Apparel brands of the Jones Apparel Group, a position he held until 2007.

Mendelson has been an active member of LIM College’s Fashion Industry Advisory Board since 2000. Throughout this period he has supported the College in innumerable ways, including by hiring LIM College interns and graduates, participating in panel discussions, and serving as a guest lecturer -- all while continually providing invaluable curricular advice to assist in identifying emerging areas of study.
