Information for Accepted International Students

Congratulations on your acceptance to LIM College! There are a number of items you will need to take of in order to get yourself prepared for the upcoming semester. Please be sure to complete all of the steps below. If you have questions, we have provided the contact information for the relevant departments below.

#1 Secure your seat in the upcoming semester’s class. Secure your seat at LIM College by submitting the $400 tuition deposit. You can pay the deposit online here. You can make tuition payments to LIM College by wire transfer or a check drawn on a US bank. If you plan on paying by wire transfer you must first contact our Student Accounts Office for details.

#2 Start your visa application. Students are sent the Application for Form I-20 in late spring via email. Students must submit the Tuition Agreement and $400 tuition deposit before a Form I-20 will be issued.

#3 Arrange for housing. LIM College welcomes you to live in our state of the art, luxury residence hall. Housing arrangements are made with the Office of Residence Life. Housing applications will be sent out a few months before the semester begins.

LIM College offers students an Off-campus Meal Plan Option and we encourage you to visit their website here. Select LIM- New York City to view the many participating restaurants and supermarkets that accept our meal plan.

#4 Get your Immunization Form filled out. In accordance with New York State Law, all students must have immunization records on file at the College in order to attend classes. Have your physician complete the immunization form and submit it to the attention of the Office of Counseling & Wellness. At the very latest, it must be submitted when you come to testing and scheduling.

#5 Health Insurance. LIM College requires health insurance coverage and an automatic charge for health insurance will be applied to your account. Students who have current health insurance may waive the automatic health insurance by providing proof of coverage. LIM College’s health insurance provider is Gallagher Koster and we encourage you to visit their website at: https://www.gallagherkoster.com/

#6 Final Transcripts. You must send LIM College your official final high school transcript after you have graduated (through WES). In accordance with New York State Law, all students must submit proof of High School graduation in order to attend classes. College students must also be sure that LIM College has a final high school transcript on file. Students who cannot obtain their final high school transcript will be permitted to submit their official translated diploma, photocopies will not be accepted.

Transfer students must also be sure to send final college transcripts for any coursework that may have been in progress during the time of application. International college transcripts must be sent through WES.

IB students must be sure to send their final grades along with course descriptions or syllabi for all classes you are seeking credit for.

#7 Testing & Scheduling. All international students whose first language is not English, regardless of transfer credit and/or standardized test scores, are required to take a mandatory English placement test prior to the start of the fall/spring semester. This test is used to verify English proficiency, competency, and written ability. Test results determine placement into, or out of, a developmental level, zero-credit, English skills & Communications course. Any international student required to take this course must do so in their first semester at LIM College.

Math placement is based on applicable transfer credit and/or standardized test scores. International students without these credentials are required to take a mathematics placement test. Any international student who places into remedial mathematics must adhere to the 'Remedial Course Policy' as stated in the LIM College catalog.

For your convenience, LIM College plans a special date for international students to do their testing in scheduling that takes place the day after move in to the residence hall. You cannot take your placement tests online or at another school. Details will be sent to you a few months before the semester starts.

#8 Orientation. All incoming students are required to attend LIM College’s New Student Orientation. Information for orientation is sent out by the office of Student Life a few months before the start of the semester.
