Students, faculty, staff, alumni and family members will come together October 12 – 14 to enjoy  LIM College’s 2nd annual Friends & Family Weekend. Featuring three days of exciting events at the LIM College Townhouse and New York City, Friends & Family Weekend provides an opportunity for parents, siblings -- and even grandparents -- to experience a slice of College life and spend quality time with each other.

Friday, October 12
Casino Night
7:00 – 10:00 p.m. at the LIM College Townhouse
12 East 53rd St. (between Fifth & Madison Aves.)

Our 2nd annual Casino Night -- featuring our famous $5,000 “Drawdown” raffle -- is almost here! Play roulette, Texas Hold’em and blackjack with specially-trained student “card sharks.” It’s all in good fun and you can cash your chips in for fabulous prizes. So let luck be a lady and show us your best poker face!

Raffle tickets are $20 and can be purchased by clicking on the link following link: LIM FEF Raffle. You do not need to be present to win. Raffle tickets purchased online will be mailed to you.

Daytime Events at the LIM College Townhouse - 12 East 53rd St. (between Fifth & Madison Aves.)

Color Talks, Color Walks: A Dialogue in the Emotions and Motion of Color
throughout the LIM College Townhouse from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
An installation of presentation boards and styled looks by LIM College Fashion Forecasting and Styling students offers a glimpse into these two exciting career paths. Our students will focus on six colors and investigate the language of color through this museum-style exhibit. Color Talks, Color Walks will showcase their studies in the fields of fashion forecasting and styling.

Pop-up Shop
in the Oval Room from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
LIM College students, in association with the Nation Retail Foundation Student Association, will create and merchandise our first Friends & Family Weekend pop-up shop. Merchandise from top fashion and beauty brands will be for sale and all proceeds will benefit the LIM Fashion Education Foundation (FEF), a 501(c)(3) foundation.

The Iron Merchant
on the 4th floor from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Visual Merchandising students are presented with a themed reality challenge in which they are to showcase a specific product utilizing a mannequin and assorted materials and props. To add to the task, they must also incorporate a ‘secret prop’ into their exhibit and complete it within the one hour time limit. Joe Baer of ZenGenius, creator of the challenge at the professional level, will be on hand to host this competition. Come cheer your friends and classmates and vote for the venue that best translates the challenge. Everyone in attendance will be able to vote.

Build the LIM Sub!
in FashionOpolis from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m.
Come and watch teams compete as they build the 2013 LIM Sub. Our friends at Subway will bring all the ingredients to create the perfect sandwich (using specific criteria and goals). The entries will be judged and the winner will be sold at several Subway locations! Last year the winner was “Turkey is the New Black.” Who will be the lucky winner this year? The audience will be invited to sample the entries and lunch will be served.

Cultural Connections to Fashion (Professor Amanda Hallay, Fashion Merchandising )
Room 5351 from 1:30 - 1:55 p.m.
A look at the cultural, political, sociological and economic history of the 20th century and its impact on fashion, culture, art, design music and film of today.

Dusseldorf: A Visual Department Experience (Professor Eric Feigenbaum, Visual Merchandising)
Room 5351 from 2:00 - 2:25 p.m.
Visual Merchandising student Carinne Cusanelli and Department Chair Eric Feigenbaum traveled to Germany to address the EHI Retail Conference in Dusseldorf. See their presentation titled “VISUAL MERCHANDISING ON FIFTH AVENUE: RETAIL’S WINDOW TO THE WORLD”

Menswear: It’s Role in the Fashion Industry (Professor Derek Cockle, Fashion Merchandising)
Room 5352 from 2:00 - 2:25 p.m.
Learn some fashion industry history and what is current in Menswear today.

Making it as a Fashion Writer in New York (Writing Center Director Dr. Robert Clark)
Room 5351 from 2:30-2:55 p.m.                                                                                        
Writers from Poe to Dave Eggers have combined the roles of con-artist, hustler and literary sage in the process of conquering Manhattan’s literary world. Robert Clark will explore the evolution of the profession of writer, and LIM College student writers will discuss what “making it” means today.

Deadly Threads: The Anatomy of a Fashion-Based Mystery (Professor Jane Cleland, Arts & Communications) Room 5352 from 2:30 - 2:55 p.m.
Join mystery author Jane K. Cleland as she recreates her research trail using the LIM College Library and electronic databases. Follow along as she reveals how she discovered fun and surprising vintage fashion facts that inform the plot of her Josie Prescott Antiques Mystery, Deadly Threads. Bring your fashion research and novel-writing questions for the Q& A to follow the presentation. You’ll receive a complimentary copy of Deadly Threads and Jane will be glad to autograph it for you.

Come bowl with us in the heart of Times Square! We have reserved an area just for our group to hang out, bowl, and snack. Food will include sliders, chicken tenders, coconut shrimp pizza, spring rolls, mac & cheese, and much more. Cost $35.
