LIM College Adding More Space at Maxwell Hall
New "community center" of the College will include an eatery, more seating and docking stations
LIM College is adding 4,500 square feet of new space to its Maxwell Hall location (at 216 East 45th Street). The College is taking over the street-level area directly adjacent to Jittery Joe’s Coffee and the existing student lounge.
Construction started at the beginning of October. When completed, the space will house an expanded lounge with new furniture and more seating for students, and the entire floor’s audio-visual capabilities will be dramatically enhanced with the integration of a state-of-the-art audio-video projection system. Electric docking stations will also be added throughout both sides of the student lounge, supporting the LIM College community's ability to “BYOD” -- bring your own mobile device -- for educational or recreational use.
With student relaxation and socialization as its primary purpose, the first floor of Maxwell Hall will become the community center of the College – serving as a venue for special events, while serving students, faculty, and staff on a daily basis. To help achieve the goal of creating a “student union” for LIM College, the Office of Student Life will also move to newly-constructed offices on the lower level of Maxwell Hall.
A particularly exciting aspect of this expansion will be the addition of a food vendor that will offer a wide variety of all-natural and organic items, including wraps, salads, soups, snacks and drinks. They will have a storefront entrance as well as an interior window exclusively for LIM College use.
The new space is expected to be ready for use by the beginning of the Spring 2013 semester.
Says Elizabeth S. Marcuse, President of LIM College, "We are very excited to complete this addition and, as always, remain committed to providing our students, faculty, and staff with the best facilities and resources possible."
