Free Your Star Foundation Awards First Scholarship to LIM College Student

Shean England recognized for his work ethic and commitment to community

The Free Your Star Foundation has awarded its inaugural scholarship of $500 to LIM College senior Shean England (left). Free Your Star scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students with financial need who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate a passion for contributing to their community.

The Free Your Star Foundation was founded by LIM College alumna Sahar Pazirandeh (Class of 2008). She says, “Free Your Star aims to change the face of the fashion, film, photography, and magazine industries by providing financial resources and mentoring for urban youth and women.”

By partnering with working professionals who will serve as mentors, the Foundation plans to offer scholarship recipients structured internship programs. The organization will also provide grants to fashion designers, documentarians and photojournalists working to help urban youth and women.

Says Parirokh, “We are delighted that Shean is our first scholarship recipient. His journey from Baltimore to New York City is a clear representation of his strong work ethic and his essay expressed his commitment to give back to his community by mentoring teens through Freedom Star’s mentoring program.”

The Foundation will award a $1,000 scholarship for the Spring 2012 semester. The deadline to apply will be in February 2012 and complete application details will be announced soon. For more information email sahar@freedomstaronline.com.
