Application Procedures

LIM accepts applications on a rolling admission basis. You may apply at any time up to the beginning of the fall or spring term until all openings are filled. However, it is strongly suggested to apply as early as possible. Once all application materials have been submitted, students applying for the fall semester will be notified within four to six weeks beginning December 15. When applying for spring semester, you will be notified within three to four weeks once all application materials are submitted. Upon acceptance to the college, a $400 enrollment deposit secures your place.

To be considered for admission, you must submit:

  1. The completed Application for Admission; Download application
  2. A $40 non-refundable application fee;
  3. Official transcripts from all high schools and colleges attended. (High School Diploma or Equivalent required);
  4. Official SAT or ACT scores. (Waived for applicants over the age of 25 and students who have satisfactorily completed at least 30 credits at an accredited college);
  5. Two letters of recommendation are required.
  6. LIM has recently changed its interview requirement. Once all of your application materials have been received LIM may require you to interview. Although the interview is no longer a requirement for all students, those who desire an on-campus interview to supplement their application can do so by request.
  7. International Students, for whom English is not the primary language, are required to submit TOEFL scores (minimum score of 80 for internet-based, 213 for computer-based).
  8. A telephone interview is required for all international students.
  9. LIM requires that all international students have their credentials (transcripts) evaluated by World Education Services (WES) and translated for submission. After review of your application the Office of Admissions reserves the right to request additional documentation and/or translation of materials in support of your application.
  10. It is now strongly recommended that all applicants submit an Activity Sheet. The Activity Sheet should highlight the applicant's extra-curricular activities, philanthropic work, awards received, etc. Suggested guidelines for the Activity Sheet can be downloaded by clicking here. (download Activity Sheet Guidelines as pdf)
  11. Required essay: Please express your interest in the business of fashion and LIM by writing a well structured 250-400 word academic essay. The essay must include, but is not limited to, the following points:
    • Why did you decide a fashion business career was for you? Was there a specific event that sparked your interest in the business of fashion? If yes, what did you learn from that event?
    • Why do you believe LIM is a good match for you and what sets LIM apart from other colleges you have investigated?
    • What academic major will you select and why do you believe it will help you to achieve your educational and career goals?

To be considered for Early Action Admission you must complete all of the above and submit the Early Action Applicant Form on or before November 15.

Special information for transfer students and part-time students

Transfer Students: How to Apply
Each transfer student's record will be evaluated individually with liberal interpretation placed on course equivalencies at the time of scheduling. LIM recognizes that students coming from other institutions* may have completed some of the Bachelor Degree requirements. In these cases, special programs will be designed to meet their needs.

Transfer students may enter LIM in either semester and with any amount of credit accumulation. Students with an Associate Degree may be accepted for full junior standing, but will be required to fulfill all degree and resident requirements. For all transfer students, credits with a "D" grade are not accepted without a degree.

LIM also recognizes credits obtained through the College Proficiency Examination Program (CPEP) and The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) of the College Board where appropriate. College Board Advanced Placement tests may be acceptable for advanced standing and credit. Grades for any credits awarded under these programs will not be computed in the student's Grade Point Index.*

*In all cases, at least 33 credits and one work experience must be completed at LIM including the final 33 credits.

Part-Time Students: How to Apply
Students may apply for part-time status. Part-time students may register for 11 or fewer credits in a semester.

To participate in work projects, internships or the senior semester, part-time students must complete the pre-requisite courses, be matriculated in a degree program and have completed a minimum of 15 credits at LIM before receiving a work assignment.

For permanent placement, all part-time students must be degree candidates and registered at LIM for their final semester.
