LIM's SIFE Team 2nd Runner-Up in Regional Competition
Spring 2007 -

On March 26, LIM's Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team traveled to Brooklyn to compete against SIFE teams from other colleges and universities from throughout the region. They were vying for a chance to compete at the 2007 SIFE USA National Exposition in Kansas City, Missouri. LIM's team was named second runner-up in their league.

Members of the SIFE team take what they learn about business in the classroom and apply it to real-life situations through projects that help members of the community while teaching the principles of free enterprise. At competition the team is judged on how well they taught others entrepreneurship, business ethics, market economics, and and personal and financial success skills.

The projects taken on by this year's SIFE students include:

  • Organizing computer skills workshops for economically underprivileged women
  • Teaching ethics and tolerance in the workplace to students at an inner-city public high school
  • Working with an upscale shoe retailer on a marketing strategy to refresh its brand
  • Teaming with Columbia University's SIFE team to developing marketing strategies for a retailer catering to plus-sized women
  • Hosting a panel presentation for high school students on careers in the fashion industry

SIFE was founded in 1975 and is active on more than 1700 college and university campuses in 42 countries and territories. The SIFE team at LIM is supervised by Professor Diane Martin, a faculty member in the college's Management department.
