Transfer Student FAQ

Is LIM flexible with accepting transfer credits?
Yes. LIM typically accepts business, fashion, and liberal arts credits with a grade of "C" or better.

If I attend a community college for the first two years, can I transfer to LIM with an Associate degree?
Absolutely. Students with an Associate degree may be accepted for full junior standing, but will be required to fulfill all degree and resident requirements.

Is there a minimum or maximum number of credits needed to transfer in?
No. You can transfer into LIM with any number of credits. However, in all degree programs the final 33 credits plus the Senior Semester must be completed at LIM. In addition, the maximum amount of credits LIM will accept is 65.

Will I be eligible for housing?
Yes. LIM's off-campus housing at the 1760 Third Avenue Residence is open to all levels of students on a first-come, first-served basis.

Are there any specific scholarships for transfer students?
Yes. The most popular is the LIM Transfer Grant, which is awarded to students who transfer into LIM with an associate degree and a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Click here for specific information on the Transfer Grant and other scholarships LIM offers.

If I transfer into LIM, will I still be able to do an internship?
Yes. Depending on what your status is when you transfer in, you may have the opportunity to complete a Work Project internship, which is required in the freshman and sophomore years. Transfer juniors will participate in a Work Project and the Junior Field Trip course. All transfer students will also complete the Senior Co-op, which is one semester of full-time work.

When will my transcripts be evaluated?
Your transcripts will be evaluated prior to your testing and scheduling date after you have been accepted to the College.

LIM admits students based on their academic ability, proven strengths, and individual talents. We then encourage students to apply for scholarships and financial assistance. Eight out of 10 LIM students receive some form of financial assistance.
