New Student and Parent Orientation
Aug 1 or 17, 2006 - McGraw-Hill Conference Center

New Student and Parent Orientation

The Office of Student Life welcomes you to LIM! Our mission for New Student and Parent Orientation is to provide new students and their families with the tools necessary to make a successful transition to the College. LIM's New Student Orientation is both fun and informative and introduces newly admitted first-year and transfer students to the College's academic, social and cultural environment. Parent & Family Orientation runs separately from the student program and focuses on a variety of topics of interest to parents of new students.

This year's Orientation will consist of one-day programs on Aug. 1 or 17. Both the student and parent programs will include information sessions in the morning and lunch aboard a yacht with spectacular views of the NYC skyline and the Statue of Liberty.

As an enrolled student, you should have received your Save-the-Date flier to reserve your preferred date. A postcard will be sent to you in mid- to late July confirming your date. Please contact Brett Cameron at 212-752-1530 ext. 279 or Yolande Miller at 212-752-1530 ext. 246 if you have not received the Save-the-Date flier.

Everyone is required to check in between 8:00 - 8:30 am at the McGraw-Hill Conference Center at 1221 Avenue of the Americas (6th Avenue between 48th and 49th Streets - enter on 49th St.)

Information for New Students:
The first step to a successful college career is to attend New Student Orientation. Our goal at Orientation is to ensure that new students feel welcomed and are prepared, both socially and academically, for the start of the Fall 2006 semester. Upon signing in at Orientation you will be separated from your parents and assigned to a group of new students which will be guided by an LIM mentor. Your mentor is a current LIM student who will be with you and your group throughout the full day of Orientation. Morning session topics include academic success, study abroad opportunities, advising and scheduling, and safety in New York City. The afternoon boat ride will be time to relax, enjoy lunch and interact with other groups. Remember to wear comfortable clothes and shoes!

Information for Parents and Family Members:
Parents play a vital role in their college student's education and development towards independence. Parent & Family Orientation helps parents create realistic expectations and offers a great deal of information to assist both parents and students in making the transition to LIM.  Topics include financial aid, counseling, FERPA regulations and student success. Please remember that the parent and student programs are entirely separate; there are no scheduled meetings between parents and students during Orientation.
