> Moment of Silence
April 19, 2007 -
As the entire country struggles to comprehend the scope of this week's tragic violence at Virginia Tech, I would like to offer a statement of sympathy and support for the families and loved ones of the victims.
The loss of so many innocent lives affects us all. Therefore, we ask that everyone observe a moment of silence tomorrow on Thursday, April 19 at 10 a.m. in all LIM classrooms, offices, and common areas, in order for us to remember and pray for those who lost their lives.
Security issues are taken seriously at LIM. It is our intention to make the College ready to respond to all types of emergencies. Since the events of 9/11, we have had an emergency response plan in place. This plan is on file with the New York City Police and Fire Departments and is under continuous review as circumstances change and LIM expands its facilities. If you have specific questions about this plan, please contact Michael Donohue, Vice President of Finance and Operations, at 212-752-1530 Ext. 224.
This is a very sad time for the entire nation, especially for those of us who are members of a college community. Our students, faculty, and staff may have friends or family members at Virginia Tech. Whether you are personally connected to the tragedy or not, you may want to speak with someone one-on-one about feelings of fear, grief, anger, or confusion. I encourage all members of the LIM community to contact Dr. Ellen Simpao, Director of Counseling, at 212-752-1530 Ext. 229 if you feel the need to reach out and discuss your thoughts and feelings.
Again, we offer heartfelt condolences to everyone affected by this horrific incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Virginia Tech community during this difficult time.
