Student Council

The Student Council is the voice of every student at LIM and is devoted to those issues that will enhance the educational, social, and career development of LIM students. The LIM Student Council provides an open forum atmosphere and is dedicated to being approachable and receptive to the individual differences of student needs and ideas. The Student Council is committed to being a source of information, guidance, and service to students.  Do you have questions, comments or concerns? Email us at studentcouncil@limcollege.edu

The main goals of Student Council include:

  • To enhance the quality of life of LIM students
  • To provide an effective and efficient advising body which serves the collective interests of LIM students
  • To serve as a communication link between LIM students and senior College administration
  • To enrich the College community
  • To provide leadership opportunities for LIM students, therefore providing the College, and greater community, with student leaders who have practical and transferable skills
  • To serve as a role model for other student organizations at LIM

Congratulations to our New Executive Board for 2008-2009!

We are excited to work with you over the next year to develop LIM's student community.  We hold open meetings every week and we invite you to join us. Currently we meet on Tuesdays at 12:30 pm in room 0502. Check back this fall for our new location!

Executive Board:

President:
Vanessa Gurrieri is originally from Long Island but currently resides at the Clark Residence in Brooklyn. She is a junior marketing major at LIM. Vanessa transferred from SUNY Farmingdale and arrived at LIM in January of 2007. She enjoys writing and reading poetry, photography, hanging out with friends, and doing homework.

Vanessa says, "when it comes to problem solving, I evaluate the situation and think of different methods to handle it. I love life, my friends, family, and school. As your Student Council President I plan on bringing together the LIM community. I have spoken to students about what they would like to see done. I want to bring about change within the institution. Some of my goals this year as Student Council President include:

Installing new hand soaps in the bathrooms
Finding an area that can be used for student storage
Issuing classroom book sets, so students do not have to carry all of their books

Vice President:
Krista Gennell is a 3-year LIM veteran, having been here since freshman year. Krista is majoring in marketing, with a minor in fashion merchandising and will be graduating in May of 2009. Since freshman year, Krista has taken part in LIM clubs and activities including: Fashion Club (2005-2006) and being a Student Mentor (2006-2007). During this upcoming year, she plans on getting more feedback and involvement from LIM students, with hopes of creating new clubs, groups, and ideas to make the LIM community even better. She says, "Along with the rest of the Student Council Executive Board, we will be able to come together and be the voice of the student body!"

Secretary:
Ashley Derr will serve as a mediator between Student Council and the student body. Having an open platform of communication will allow for new ideas and opportunities to better LIM as a whole. Since Student Council is a representative voice of the students, Ashley's responsibility will be to alert the student body of any progress or changes in the wellness of the College.

Treasurer:
Rahul Zala was born in the UAE, raised in the USA, studied in the UK, and lived in France. He has been everywhere and has experienced many cultures. Rahul lives life spontaneously and to the fullest. He loves to draw and has an intense passion for music. He also believes that the more you know the less you don't know, so he reads. As Student Council Treasurer he will not only manage the accounts but, as always, he will express interest in the College.

He says, "The College can be better, and will be, all it takes is the first step. It was once said that "never let any one tell you that you can't do something, not even yourself." Change will come, all in good time."
