Next Generation Award Winners Announced
Nina Truong and Kelly LaForgia to receive cash prizes and attend black-tie industry event
Two LIM College students have been selected as winners of the LIM College-Accessories Council Next Generation Awards. Nina Truong and Kelly LaForgia will each receive a $750 prize and attend the ACE Awards, a major industry event that brings together the top names in the fashion world.
The Next Generation Awards program is an annual student competition sponsored by the Accessories Council that is designed to foster understanding and appreciation of the accessories industry and the career opportunities available within it.
In Spring 2012, students in Professor Pat Baukal’s Accessories course were challenged to create a marketing plan to drive more traffic to the Judith Leiber family of brands. Kelly developed the winning plan. Alene Diwa and Danielle Luis were also chosen as finalists.
Professor Patricia Hoeltge’s Spring 2012 Applied Concepts in Fashion Merchandising class was charged with developing a virtual store with Styleowner.com. Nina and Rebecca Turpin were chosen as finalists out of a class of 20. Nina was then selected as the winner based on her outstanding layout and merchandise selection and presentation.
This year’s ACE Awards will be held at Cipriani 42nd Street on November 5. Honorees include Vince Camuto and the Calvin Klein Collection. Plans are also in the works for Kelly and Nina to visit Judith Leiber and styleowner.com, respectively.
