Record Number of LIM College Students Win BRAG Scholarships
Recipients recognized at star-studded gala
The Black Retail Action Group (BRAG) has awarded 11 of its 56 college scholarships for the 2013-2014 academic year to LIM College students -- a record-setting number.
The scholarship winners were announced at BRAG’s 43rd Annual Scholarship and Awards Dinner Gala on October 18 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Manhattan. The gala was attended by hundreds of industry insiders, fashion VIP's, and retail executives. Students even had the opportunity to meet and mingle with celebrities, including Nick Cannon, host of America’s Got Talent.
BRAG was founded in 1970 to promote the acceptance and participation of African-Americans and people of color at all levels of the retail and related industries. In 2007, a college chapter of BRAG was established at LIM.
BRAG scholarship recipients are selected based on scholastic achievement, leadership, community service, and need. As part of this year’s application process, students also had to submit an essay on how online retailers have changed the retail industry over the last decade.
The LIM College students who will receive 2013-2014 BRAG scholarships are: DeJonnae Boyd, Crystal Davis, Kaycee Dawson, Daphnie Denoi, Raquel Goff, Alexia Harris, Latisha Johnson, Monai McCullough, Tatiana Patterson, Chaz Pringle and Ebonie Scott.
This year’s BRAG gala honorees were: Terry J. Lundgren, Chairman, President & CEO of Macy’s Inc.; Iman, CEO & Founder of Iman Cosmetics, Skincare & Fragrances; and Alain Fontant, Vice President of Brand Development at Sean John.
