Professor Amanda Hallay Talks to the San Antonio Express-News About Skulls in Fashion
Traditional Halloween motif goes from scary to stylish
Amanda Hallay, a professor in LIM College's Fashion Merchandising Department, was quoted in an article that appeared in the San Antonio Express-News about the use of the skull as a fashion motif.
Hallay noted the skull's history as a symbol of mortality, as evidenced in pre-Columbian art, the Jolly Roger pirate flag, Day of the Dead altars, and artist Damien Hirst's $100 million diamond-encrusted skull.
