Paper fashions created for the National Stationery Show will be on display in Connecticut

Chrome & Couture - Say ‘‘Yes’’ To The Paper Dress Show Combines Visual Merchandising Students’ Paper Dresses with Vintage Motorcycles

The exhibit, which opens October 1 at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, Connecticut, features nine paper dresses by LIM College students that were originally created for the 2011 National Stationery Show’s "Paper Runway" competition this spring.

It includes the top three winners: "Feather Fantasy," by Alexis Michaelides and Margaret Carroll; "Orange Burst," by Alexis Michaelides and "Golden Warrior," by Gina Mercatili.

Each of the student’s paper dresses will be paired with a vintage or exceptional custom motorcycle. Marjorie Lee Woo, Associate Chair of LIM College’s Visual Merchandising Department, worked with the students and supervised the installation of their work. A milliner, Woo created paper headpieces to accompany the dresses in the show.

Work by LIM College students Jordan McGovern, Lisa Michaelides, Sara Bautista, Connor DeGuehery and Edin Giron will also be included in the display. And Professors Grailing King and Katerina Lanfranco also created designs for the exhibit.

In addition to the works by students and faculty from LIM College, Chrome & Couture will feature other paper fashions and sculpture by professional artists.
