Dr. Symons joined the Department of Arts and Sciences as an Assistant Professor of Communication and Media Studies in August of 2018. He previously served as an adjunct faculty member at Sacred Heart University and Post University, and as a visiting professor at the University of Hartford. He has taught a wide range of undergraduate courses in communications and media.

As a scholar, Dr. Symons's research has appeared in Celebrity Studies, the Journal of Popular Film and Television, and the Journal of Adaptation in Film and Performance. He is also the author of Mel Brooks in the Cultural Industries: Survival and Prolonged Adaptation, published by Edinburgh University Press in 2012.

Dr. Symons received his Ph.D. in Film and Television Studies from the University of Nottingham, where he served on the editorial board of Scope: An Online Journal of Film and Television Studies.
