LIM College Student Wins National Retail Federation Foundation Scholarship
Shannon Oriole is a recipient of the Ray M. Greenly Scholarship
Shannon Oriole, a Management major who is part of LIM College's Fashion Scholars honors program, has been named as one of 24 national recipients of the National Retail Federation Foundation's (NRFF) Ray M. Greenly Scholarship.
Shannon, who is also the Student Ambassador for LIM College’s National Retail Federation Student Association (NRFSA), will receive $5,000 and a stipend to attend the NRF's "Big Show" in January 2013. A special student program during the convention, made possible by contributions from The Container Store, Macy's, Saks and Walmart, will incorporate networking sessions with retail recruiters and opportunities for students to meet retail executives from high-profile companies, including HSN and Rent the Runway.
The Ray M. Greenly Scholarship Fund was established to honor the memory of a former Shop.org vice president who lost his battle with cancer in the fall of 2005. His generous and kind spirit inspired NRF to establish a scholarship that provides financial support to students pursuing a career in retail in areas including marketing, operations, merchandising, logistics, IT, and analytics. Each student is nominated by faculty at their college/university based on their scholastic achievements and passion for retail.
The scholarship is partially funded by a portion of the proceeds from CyberMonday.com, a website launched in 2006 to provide retailers with the opportunity to highlight their online promotions on Cyber Monday and throughout the year.
Shannon’s goal upon graduation from LIM College is to enter an executive training program for a major retailer. In the Spring 2013 semester, she will complete an internship with Barneys New York's Buying and Planning division.
Shannon and the other scholarship winners are featured on the NRFF website.
