2019 Commencement Speaker: Lauren C. Anderson

Lauren C. Anderson will deliver the keynote address and receive the College’s Distinguished Achievement Award at the College’s 80th Commencement exercises on May 24, 2019 at 10 a.m. at David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center. Ms. Anderson will also receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree in recognition of her notable contributions to global gender equality.

Ms. Anderson is an advocate and changemaker for women and youth. After 29 years with the FBI, she now uses her geopolitical and international security expertise to work with women leaders and young people throughout the globe to prevent conflict, advocate for social justice, and challenge economic inequalities.

Ms. Anderson’s career as an FBI executive was marked by many firsts, including being one of the first women on an FBI SWAT team and the first woman to lead the FBI’s office in Paris, where she led the FBI’s engagement in 24 countries. She then went on to direct all international terrorism investigations of the New York Joint Terrorism Task Force, overseeing the disruption of terrorist plots around the world.

Now, as a Global Ambassador with Vital Voices Global Partnership, Ms. Anderson mentors women in Egypt, Somalia, Gaza, India, and the Philippines. She also works closely with several additional international non-profit organizations that advocate for women and youth in areas that include diversity, sustainable business development, criminal justice reform, and personal safety.

In 2016, Ms. Anderson co-produced the inaugural Empower the Immigrant Woman conference, for and with immigrant women in the State of Maine. She also helped create a panel on “Barriers Women Face” for the G(irls) 20 Summit in Istanbul and continues to serve as a mentor to delegates.

Ms. Anderson, who is a graduate of Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, was the featured speaker at LIM College’s annual Women’s History Month breakfast in March of 2018.

Says LIM College President Elizabeth S. Marcuse, “We are very excited to have Lauren C. Anderson as our 2019 Commencement speaker. She is a true role model who has devoted her career to making the world a better and safer place. I am confident that she will motivate and inspire our graduates.”
