Alumni Entrepreneur: Aphrodite Comodromos (’12)
May 23, 2018
To feed her need for creative independence, Aphrodite co-founded a curated e-commerce site that reflects her favorite fashion, beauty and lifestyle elements.
What’s happening in your career now?
In 2016, my cofounder and I started building our own fashion and lifestyle e-commerce site called Maison Rogue. We offer a curated assortment from designer and emerging brands that we’ve personally chosen and love. We went live this January.
How did LIM help prepare you to launch your own business?
The internships are key! As a sophomore, I interned at Vera Wang in the Ready-to-Wear sales division. During my junior and senior years, I interned at Barneys in buying. This meant I had great connections with vendors early in my career. The connections that I made then, and since, have helped us build Maison Rogue.
What has been your biggest accomplishment so far?
Getting our first customer who came organically to our website and made a purchase proves there are people out there who believe in our company’s idea. We also recently contributed to a story on ManRepeller.com that featured our business!
What do you envision for the future of your company?
As a very young company, we’re focused on longevity and creating lasting impressions as we build our customer base.
What advice would you give to someone who’s considering starting their own business?
Prepare. Don’t rush into anything before doing your research, and really believe in your idea. In the beginning, you’re going to work long hours and do all sorts of jobs, so have patience!
