Alumni Entrepreneur Spotlight: Amber Kellawan (’12)
July 2, 2018
The lessons Amber learned at LIM College were at the front of her mind as she launched her own mobile fashion boutique. As her business gains popularity, Amber aims to one day take it national.
What’s happening in your career now?
I’m the owner of a mobile boutique that sells women’s clothing and accessories in Dayton, Ohio. My business, Amber Row, was licensed in 2016. My website went live in 2017, and February 2018 was the launch of my truck, Miss Row.
How did your LIM College education help prepare you for your career?
My Senior Co-op and internship experiences helped me the most, because they allowed me to apply what I learned in class to real life. As I was creating my business plan, applying for a small business loan and putting together a spreadsheet for merchandise math, I thought back to my LIM projects and papers for help.
What has been your biggest accomplishment so far?
In April 2018, I and my business were featured on local news in Dayton. They even interviewed me on live television, which I consider a real success so early in my business ownership.
What do you envision for the future of your company?
I envision having Miss Row franchises in other states and having a brick-and-mortar store.
What advice would you give to someone who’s considering starting their own business?
Make sure you’re passionate and that this is what you want to do, because you have no days off when you run your own business. Also, be sure to have fun with each step of the process—after all, you are making your dream become a reality!
