Alumni Q&A: Emily Bliss, Class of 2016
October 27, 2017
What’s happening in your career right now?
I’m the Customer Care and Logistics Manager for NYLON’s online shopping platform, which is home to brands from all over the globe. I manage these brands and handle all customer inquiries. I also assist in the acquisition of new brands by conducting market research. Additionally, NYLON recently launched a subscription box and I’m involved in the packaging and shipping process.
If you could go back in time and give career advice to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to be open-minded and to intern as much as possible. Just because a job doesn’t seem like your ideal role, does not mean you won’t gain something out of the experience.
I would also tell myself to participate in Fashion Week and other fashion-related events as much as possible to gain more hands-on experience. Joining LIM clubs is also important and something I did not take advantage of until my sophomore year. It’s a great way to make friends and connections in the industry!
How did your LIM College education help prepare you for your career?
The internship program shaped my vision for my career. Through interning consistently, I was able to pinpoint exactly what role I wanted post-graduation. The internship courses and advisors helped me prepare for interviews in ways I did not even realize was necessary. LIM’s online job and internship posting platform was also very useful after graduation when I was looking for a full-time position.
