Alumni Spotlight: Alexis Simmons, Class of 2016

What’s happening in your career now?

I am the Consumer Marketing and Brand Strategy Coordinator for The History Channel. I’m on a team that works to assist in the development and execution of consumer advertising and experiential promotion plans to drive brand image, awareness, and tune-in.

 

If you could go back in time and give career advice to your younger self, what would it be?

It’s all going to work out. It doesn’t matter what other people think, because you are doing this for you. This big move by yourself is going to offer you more opportunity than you could have ever imagined. Don’t worry about losing your friends, the ones that are supposed to be in your life will be there years down the road cheering you on.

 

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in your field?

Intern. Intern. Intern. The entertainment industry is not only a hard industry to penetrate, but it is a very small industry, and once you know one person, you are connected to 50 more people.

Also, you may be asked to do tasks that you may believe you’re overqualified for or aren’t in your job description. When this happens, do not show anger or a lack of excitement. Every experience follows you, and I promise you, someone is always watching.
