What made you choose New York City and LIM for your college education?
I wanted to study the business of fashion and do it in a place where I’d have the most opportunities: New York City. I got a great impression when I first met with an LIM Admissions representative while studying at a Norwegian college. I was attracted to the small class sizes, the internship requirements and the location.
What’s happening in your career now?
I currently serve as the remote European social media office for Saks Fifth Avenue. In addition to shooting influencer content and doing Q&As with designers, I attend fashion shows throughout Europe and cover style trends on Saks' social platforms. I also have my toes in digital marketing and have been working with an agency to research new markets for their consumer products.
How did LIM help prepare you for what you’re doing now?
I didn’t even realize this until I graduated, but my most important takeaway was time management. When I entered the workforce, I knew how to balance a lot on my plate immediately, setting me apart from other team members. LIM also taught me about network building and gave me a broad understanding of the industry.
What challenges have you faced on your career path?
Sometimes the biggest obstacles turn into the most positive career developments. When I moved to London in August of 2017, I struggled to find 9-5 employment. I thought I would have to take several steps back in my career to get hired. Instead, I stepped away from the mindset of needing an office to have a career. Working remotely for Saks' while also freelancing for high-profile clients has broadened my horizons and prepared me for one day opening my own agency or consultancy firm.
What has been the personal highlight of your career so far?
I sat front row at the Versace AW18 show in Milan and got invited to the Dolce & Gabbana Secret Show and party. I giggle when I think about my experience during these Fashion Weeks!
What advice would you give to other international students thinking about coming to LIM College?
Realize you’re the one in charge of your life and grab all the opportunities LIM provides. I can genuinely say it was the best decision I ever made.
