Alumni Spotlight: Lauren Tuminello, Class of 2014

What’s happening in your career now?

I am an account executive for Calvin Klein - The Underwear Group. I manage wholesale account distribution for Calvin Klein Women's underwear and work with internal design, production, and sales teams to deliver the best assortment to the market.

Describe your start in the fashion business.

When I was 17, I went for my first internship interview with Giorgio Armani, only to find out that their internship program was already full. But I received a call back from Human Resources expressing how impressed they were and that they would like to offer me a temp-assistant position. This was a huge moment for me as a young professional. It solidified for me the truth of how when one door closes, another will always open.

How did LIM College help prepare you for your career?

My education at LIM was exceptionally beneficial to my career due to the fact that all of the coursework was relatable to real-life experiences. Every professor has been a part of the industry in different facets of the business, which allows for the students to view the industry from different perspectives.

If you could go back in time and give career advice to your younger self, what would you say?

Trust the process. When you’re young, it can be challenging to understand the value of a moment until it passes. With every failure comes a lesson and those lessons are important to who we become later on in life when we experience success.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in the industry?

Be your biggest fan, if you believe in yourself then others will too. Take every opportunity, big or small, volunteer or paid. You never know who you are going to meet and what will come of each experience. This industry is a lot smaller than most people realize and you only have one reputation —  remember to put your best foot forward and be the most genuine version of yourself.
