Alumni Spotlight: Ruby Muñoz, Class of 2016
August 21, 2017
What's happening in your career now?
I'm the founder of Black Mesh Clothing and RMG Creative Group. I launched Black Mesh Clothing this past May. It’s a website that sells globally sourced clothing for men and women. Since I am just starting out, I do everything — from marketing to wholesale. New styles come in every week and Black Mesh Clothing ships worldwide.
My second business, RMG Creative Group, just launched this summer. We create professional websites for any type of business. I’m involved in all facets of the design and development of the websites.
Describe your career path so far
I graduated in 2016 with a B.B.A. in Management with a concentration in International Marketing. While at LIM, I did five internships — in PR, marketing, international wholesale, and regional sales — at Yves Saint Laurent, Zac Posen, Oscar de la Renta, Balenciaga, and The Row. I also volunteered at several Fashion Week shows, including Marc Jacobs, Project Runway, Rebecca Taylor, and Elle Magazine Style 360. One year after graduating, I launched my first business.
How did your LIM education help prepare you for what you’re doing now?
LIM was the foundation of my fashion career. LIM really prepares their students for life after graduation, they know that experience is key, which is why students in four-year programs need at least three internships to graduate. The College is also always organizing events to give their students wider exposure in the industry.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in your field?
Get as much experience as possible — in the end that’s all that matters. Volunteer, intern, and assist as much as you can. New York City is incredible. You will always find something going on, so take advantage of it.
