Alumni Spotlight: Samantha Mellone, Class of 2013

What’s happening in your career right now?

I manage DevaCurl's Digital Influencer Program, working on collaborations with bloggers, celebrities, and other curly girls across the globe. I also write the brand's blog, For All Curl Kind.

Describe your career path so far. What are some challenges you’ve faced?

I've always focused on working for brands and companies I admire and believe in. The biggest challenge is that I started my career in print publishing, because everything is starting to go digital. While it wasn't the most strategic first move, I was able to create amazing content for audiences and work for brands I loved, and I don't regret it for a second. As I've continued to grow in my career I've been able to create or find opportunities to expand my digital portfolio and evolve my career path.

How did LIM College help prepare you for your career?

LIM gave me the opportunity to really shape my education to fit exactly what I wanted to do. I was able to pursue my interests in publishing and in digital, while simultaneously backing these passions with a business degree. My education equipped me with skills that I've leveraged in every single one of my jobs.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in your industry?

Constantly be on the lookout for inspiration, consume as much and as many types of media as you can, and question the norms. The media world is evolving at hyperspeed and innovative ideas are what's driving us forward.
