Alumni Spotlight: Tara Ciccone (’13)
July 11, 2018
Tara’s Marketing degree from LIM College enabled her to make a career switch she had dreamt about, transitioning from sales to the fast-paced world of publicity and PR. Today, both her professional and personal life feed off the energy of New York City.
What’s happening in your career now?
I am the head of Hospitality and Events for Brandsway Creative. I’m responsible for the publicity surrounding our hospitality clients (restaurants, bars, clubs, lounges) as well as planning and publicizing numerous large-scale events.
How would you describe your career path?
Chaotic. I started out in sales, which is not where I originally saw myself. I was making good money, but I wasn’t living my dream. I flipped my career path, took a pay cut, and embarked on a journey that led me to where I am now.
How did your LIM education help prepare you for your career?
LIM taught me many tangible things, like resume writing, and the basics of PR, public speaking, etc. The real golden lesson was that no dream is too big. Watching alumni go on to become entrepreneurs and pioneers in their fields, I was inspired.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in your industry?
Always say your piece. Your reputation is a large part of being a publicist. If you believe an idea needs to be baked a bit more, or if you think a client’s deadline should be pushed back, say something. You’re being hired for your skills and your knowledge—own it!
What career accomplishments are you most proud of?
Opening up the first Ayurvedic restaurant in New York with the fabulous Divya Alter; helping to throw the O.G. Real Housewife Jill Zarin’s charity luncheon, and throwing Zarin Fabrics’ 80th Anniversary party.
What do you do in your free time?
Lots of working out—anything where I can break a sweat! I also love to write; I’m currently freelancing for Bella Magazine, amongst others. I also love to walk the city and thrift shop. Living in New York City, you can never be bored!
