Bianca Bartolo of LIM College Selected as a Recipient of PAVE’s First Eric Feigenbaum Academic Scholarship

Bianca and punk mannequinBianca Bartolo, an LIM College student from Ozone Park, New York, has been selected as a recipient of the first Eric Feigenbaum Academic Scholarship awarded by The Planning and Visual Education Partnership (PAVE).

The PAVE Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to students in educational programs that prepare them for careers in the retail environments industry, including, but not limited to careers in retail design and planning, and visual merchandising industries. PAVE was developed to help ensure a future talent pool for the industry by eliminating barriers to studying in these fields. The funds assist students who are experiencing financial difficulties that may prevent them from continuing their education. To date, PAVE has awarded more than $75,000 in financial grants to students.

“This year marks the inaugural named PAVE scholarship for students following a curriculum of visual merchandising or design focusing on the retail industry,” said PAVE president Denny Gerdeman, “The scholarship is named after Eric Feigenbaum, a founding member and longtime supporter of PAVE." Feigenbaum is the Chair of LIM College's Visual Merchandising Department.

Continued Gerdeman, "We had 30 applicants to review and all were extremely well qualified, given that a 3.5 GPA was the minimum requirement for consideration. After much debate, two were selected to receive $2,500 each for their accomplishments and we congratulate them and all who submitted their qualifications.”

Bianca has completed several fashion industry internships, including at Gap, Madison & Laurel Showroom, and the Limelight Shops. She is now doing her Senior Co-op in store design at Barneys New York. In the summer of 2013 Bianca was selected for a month-long internship placement in Italy at Grottini Retail Environments and in June of 2013 she participated in the DDI Student Window Challenge, where she designed a window display for Saks Fifth Avenue.

Says Bianca, “I never want to stop growing as a visual merchandiser. I love what I do, and between creating window displays and designing a store, there are endless creative possibilities. I hope that the career I go on to pursue will impact the industry in the most positive way.”
