About Bud Konheim
Few people have played as active a role in the development of the designer fashion industry in America as Bud Konheim. Starting in his family’s apparel business fresh out of college, he quickly mastered the art of quality manufacturing and the business of sales and finance. But working on Seventh Avenue during the 1960s he felt something was lacking – namely authenticity in design.

In 1975, when most of American fashion was still taking its cues from runways in Paris, Konheim decided to follow his instincts and establish a New York-based company that would be design-driven and offer original pieces. His search for a creative partner for the new enterprise led him to Nicole Miller, who at the time was an undiscovered talent just graduated from Paris’ Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture and the Rhode Island School of Design.

After a series of initial conversations during which the two discovered they shared a common vision, work began on the first collection -- with Konheim overseeing sales, manufacturing and finance, and Miller in the design studio. The legendary Ida Sciolino of Bloomingdale’s placed the first major order, which began an arc of successful sales and business growth that has continued ever since.

Konheim takes a hands-on approach in directing day-to-day operation of a company that today includes an owned-and-operated designer runway collection of sportswear, dresses and eveningwear distributed through 20 freestanding Nicole Miller stores, more than 1,000 fine specialty retailers and Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks and Bloomingdale’s locations nationwide.

Among Konheim’s proudest achievements is the continuation to this day of an on-site 20+ person atelier of patternmakers, cutters and sewing operators who work continuously with Miller and her assistants to create spring, fall and resort collections, special cuts for her Hollywood and VIP clientele and a distinct collection of modern bridal gowns.

Konheim has entered a series of licensing arrangements with strategic partners for the manufacture and distribution of Nicole Miller-designed handbags, footwear, lingerie, eyewear and a range of products for the home. He has recently begun a program to further develop the company’s internal marketing and branding capability to build recognition of and regard for the Nicole Miller design signature and brand-name around the world.
