INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: ROXANNE DELOVITCH

Hometown: Montréal, Québec
Program: Master of Professional Studies (MPS), Fashion Merchandising & Retail Management

After earning an associate degree from LIM in 2012, Roxanne returned to pursue a master’s degree. She’s found LIM’s location, programs and international student offerings to be an ideal fit for her learning style and unique academic path.

What first brought you to LIM College as an undergrad?
After earning a bachelor’s degree in a different field (Child Studies), I decided I wanted to start researching fashion schools. There aren’t many fashion education offerings in Montréal. I found LIM and it was a perfect fit for me.

What happened in your career after you earned your associate degree at LIM?
I worked as an associate at Bloomingdales for about 10 months. Afterwards, I moved back to Montréal and worked as a production coordinator with a handbag company.

You recently returned to LIM to complete an MPS program. What led to that decision?
I knew I wanted to come back to New York City and live here. I also knew I wanted to get my master’s degree, but I felt I needed more experience in the industry before pursuing that. After working at the handbag company for a few years, I felt the time was right for me to return to New York and go back to school. The fashion industry is so prominent here and it always inspires me.

What have your LIM experiences been like as an international graduate student?
The International Student Services office holds workshops that show international students how to register for classes, sign up for internships, and apply for visas once our programs are complete. They also plan social gatherings so everyone can get to know each other.

What do you love about getting your education in New York City?
This city pushes me to discover something new every day. I can go out and actually experience examples of what I'm learning in the classroom. I’m inspired by walking around the city and going into stores — I take what I am seeing outside and talk about it in the classroom.

What advice would you give to other international students who may be thinking about coming to LIM?
LIM gives you opportunities to participate in career fairs, events with great guest speakers, and chances to experience the fashion industry outside the classroom. Take advantage of these!
