LIM Celebrates 80 Years at Convocation

LIM's Faculty/Staff Convocation for the 2019-2020 academic year took place on August 26. Also a celebration of the College’s 80th Anniversary, highlights from the morning ceremony included presentations of Distinguished Alumni Awards, introductions of this year’s LIM Fashion Education Foundation (FEF) Scholarship recipients, and special appearances by four elected officials.
Among the visiting legislators were New York City Councilman Keith Powers and New York State Assembly Members Alicia Hyndman, Michael Blake, and Nathalia Fernandez, each of whom delivered remarks in recognition of LIM’s 80-year milestone.
In his comments at the podium, Councilman Powers stated, “Every year, this college goes out and does something very special for students, which is prepare them for the future.”
Later in the program, LIM President Elizabeth S. Marcuse presented awards to the following alumni:
- Urvi Prunier (Class of 1993), Founder of Red Carpet Rocks
- Alyssa Francois (Class of 2014 BBA, Class of 2018 MPS), Associate Brand Manager, Dove Hair at Unilever
- Haley Steinberg (Class of 2014), Vice President of Marketing Communications for Authentic Brands Group
The students who received LIM FEF Faculty/Staff Achievement scholarships were Laurence Mobio, Charenelle Thompson, and Shayna Cuascut—who also happens to be the niece of Assemblywoman Fernandez.
The LIM community also welcomed in the new academic year by introducing new faculty and staff members, highlighting the achievements of current faculty and staff, and presenting awards to several faculty and staff members for their length of service to the College.
