LIM College Students to Compete for $100,000 in Amazon Fashion Studio Sessions

Ten LIM College students will have the opportunity to compete for more than $100,000 in prize money as they take part in the second annual Amazon Fashion Studio Sessions, a creative competition for top New York-area fashion students.

The competition to produce a compelling image for Amazon Fashion’s Fall 2014 on-site editorial (in just eight hours) will be held October 25 in Amazon Fashion’s state-of-the-art studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

LIM College, Fashion Institute of Technology, Parsons The New School for Design, Pratt Institute, and The School of Visual Arts will each assemble two five-person teams from selected entrants. One team will create a women’s fashion campaign image; the other, a menswear image. Amazon Fashion will provide each team a dedicated photography bay, as well as all the tools the competing students will need (e.g., models, hair and makeup, wardrobe, props, equipment, etc.) to create a compelling editorial message.

Prominent fashion-industry mentors will advise students throughout the day. After the teams present their final work, Amazon Fashion executives will select the winning editorials. The first-place teams in the women’s and men’s categories will each be awarded $25,000; each winning team’s school will also receive $15,000. The second-place teams in each category will receive $10,000. Additionally, the Amazon Fashion Facebook community will be asked to vote on their favorite editorial and the selected team will receive $5,000 in Amazon Gift Cards.

Each team will require a student to specialize in each of the following areas: wardrobe styling, graphic design/post-production, photography, art direction / set design, and fashion and/or accessories editing. Prior to the competition, Amazon Fashion will provide each member of every team a Kindle Fire HDX containing full competition details.

LIM College’s teams will be supervised by Professor Derek Cockle. The students selected to participate in the competition are: Ryan Beaudoin, Karla Castillo, TaKerra Hall, Grace Hinds, Japna Kaur, Allison King, John Lynch, Lindsay Nunnery, Olivia Phenix and Ivonna Young.
