LIM College Students Win YMA FSF Scholarships

LIM College students Ashley Guarda, Charlotte Sandness and Colleen Sheehan will each receive $5,000 scholarship awards at the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund (FSF) Geoffrey Beene National Scholarship Awards Dinner on January 12 at the Grand Hyatt in Times Square.

At the event, the YMA FSF, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting education for the fashion arts and business, will honor fashion luminaries John Tighe, Executive Vice President, Chief Merchant at JCPenney; Judy Person, Executive Vice President and Group President for Randa Accessories; and fashion entrepreneur and TV personality Michael Strahan — while awarding over $1 million in scholarships to students from top fashion programs.

LIM College is one of a select group of educational institutions throughout the nation chosen to take part in the YMA FSF scholarship competition. Other participating schools include Barnard College, the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University, and Harvard University. Scholarships are awarded based entirely on merit, taking into consideration the applicants' GPAs, the completion of a case study project, a personal essay detailing their aspirations, work experience, community service, and an interview with a YMA FSF Ambassador.

In addition to the scholarship funds, Ashley, Charlotte and Colleen will all receive internship placements at top fashion companies, where they will be matched with an executive mentor who will guide and assist them in networking with industry contacts.
