LIM Freshman Speaks for Her Generation in NYLON Magazine
April 6, 2017
Yusra Siddiqui (‘20) is featured in the April 2017 issue of NYLON magazine, in an article about young people throughout the U.S. titled “18 Forever.”
In the piece, Yusra is described as “a Muslim American who elegantly dons a jet black hijab, and proudly talks about the intersection of fashion, faith, and immigration.”
Yusra says that as an 18-year-old in America it was important to show how her age, culture, religion, and passions affect the world around her.
“I think it was a really good piece because the younger generation is made up of a lot of strong voices and has more power than it may seem.”
Yusra’s fashion blog, That Girl Yusra, has over 25,000 followers. She also maintains a popular Instagram account (@thatgirlyusra), and works up to 25 hours each week at Windsor Fashions, a trendy clothing store in New Jersey.
At LIM, Yusra is majoring in Marketing and also had an internship with John Paul Ataker. This included assisting at his New York Fashion Week show, where she helped with photos, organized clothing, and dressed models.
“It required a lot of hard work, stress, and sleepy mornings! But it was worth it in the end when I saw the dresses that I had been seeing for the past month hanging in the showroom come down the runway. I was really in awe that this was my life.”
Yusra says she is thankful for the creative space and opportunities that LIM College has given her.
“It’s only my freshman year and in just a few short months I am working in the industry I was so in love with and have learned things at LIM that have helped me truly grow as a person, student, and fashion enthusiast.”
