LIM Professor Ponders the Link Between Music and Fragrance
November 1, 2016
Sue Phillips, who teaches the LIM course “The Secret World of Scent,” wrote a piece for the Huffington Post that includes musings on the link between music and fragrance.
Music and fragrance consists of ‘notes’ and ‘chords’, ‘harmony’ and symphonies,” she says. “There is also a correlation in the construction of music and fragrance in the ‘composition’ which is similar too.”
As the President & CEO of Scenterprises, a custom fragrance company, Professor Phillips has created fragrances for celebrities such as Zendaya Coleman, Katie Holmes, Jamie Foxx, and Lisa Vanderpump of the Bravo series The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
She has also held executive positions with Elizabeth Arden and Lancôme and served as Vice President of Fragrance Marketing at Tiffany & Co. A true pioneer in bespoke fragrances, in 2014 Phillips opened the first-ever custom fragrance studio, The Scentarium in Manhattan’s Tribeca neighborhood.
