Lisa Springer Named As LIM College Provost
March 28, 2018
Lisa Springer will join LIM College as Provost on June 4, 2018.
As Chief Academic Officer of the College and advisor to the LIM College’s President on matters related to curriculum, faculty and attainment of academic and teaching excellence, Ms. Springer will provide leadership to the Academic Affairs unit. She joins Elizabeth S. Marcuse, President and Michael T. Donohue, Executive Vice President, Finance and Operations as the senior leadership team of the College.
Prior to joining LIM, Ms. Springer was Associate Dean at the New York University School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS), where as chief academic officer of her division, she expanded non-credit offerings in languages and humanities, refined the curriculum of the masters’ programs in professional writing and translation, launched global offerings overseas, and designed a writing program for graduate students across the School. One of her most innovative creations was a new online master’s program in Applied Fashion Merchandising.
As Assistant Dean of the NYU American Language Institute, she oversaw a period of outstanding growth, with four major initiatives: nurturing current programs, forging greater connections with international students across the University, expanding the Institute’s assessment capacities to reach greater audiences, the expansion of the NYUSPS American Language Institute Tokyo Center and the launch of the American Language Institute at NYU Shanghai.
Earlier, Dean Springer worked with the NYU Office of the President, serving as Academic Director of the NYU Abu Dhabi Summer Academy, a program for outstanding Emirati high school students, and as Academic Director of the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Scholars Programs for outstanding local university students.
Dean Springer has a BA from Barnard College, Columbia University and an MFA from Warren Wilson College.
In making this announcement, LIM College President Elizabeth S. Marcuse said, “We are very excited to have Lisa join us as Provost. With more than 15 years of experience and expertise as a leader and educator who has built programs, relationships and a culture of innovation and collaboration in higher education, she is a proven manager with a record of success identifying, implementing and assessing strategies to address changes in student needs, technology, and globalization. Among her areas of specialization are strategic planning, curriculum transformation and assessment, creating consensus among all constituents, and building and motivating teams to succeed.”
“Beginning her own higher education career as an adjunct instructor, Lisa is a seasoned faculty member with over 20 years of experience in the classroom and understands the challenges of creating rigorous content that is engaging, as well as the importance of assessing success, on both the program and course level. She is particularly focused on the uses of technology to enhance learning as well as working with a diverse community of students, creating an educational environment that benefits all learners. She has taught, both online and onsite, creating a challenging and supportive culture in which students take risks. And through all her academic and scholarly pursuits, she has learned the rewards and challenges, especially in the investment of time, faced by faculty,” President Marcuse concluded.
