Online Student Spotlight: Alexandra Feldman (AAS ’18)

AlexandraAlexandra began her LIM College experience as an on-campus student. After a cross-country move, she became one of the first to enroll in LIM’s online Fashion Merchandising & Management associate degree program. She’s now applying what she learns to her part-time job as a Color Consultant and Sephora University Beauty Class Coach.

What was your educational experience before coming to LIM College?
I was born and raised in Arizona. When I graduated from high school, I immediately began at Arizona State University as a Business Marketing major. I realized quickly it wasn’t what I wanted to do. I had been a makeup artist throughout high school, so I decided to go to cosmetology school. After finishing, I was lost on what to do next. I knew I wanted to work in beauty, but I had no idea how to achieve what I was aiming for. That was when I heard about LIM.

What appealed to you about LIM?
I had always wanted to live in New York City and this was the perfect way to do it. I read testimonials from alumni about where their LIM path had taken them. I always knew there was much more to the beauty and fashion industry than just retail. It wasn’t until LIM that I realized those job opportunities would be possible for me.

What led you to go from an on-campus program to one that’s online?
I loved the year I spent in the city and on campus, but I was in over my head financially. When I came back to Arizona for the summer, I started thinking about my future. I saw that LIM’s associate degree program was also available online. It was a way for me to get my degree from a college I love while fitting my financial situation.

Are you working in the beauty business now?
I am currently working part-time at Sephora. My LIM projects as an on-campus Fashion Merchandising student actually helped me get the job. I am a Color Consultant, a Sephora University Beauty Class Coach, and I’m training to be a Studio Coordinator.

What do you like best about LIM’s online program?
My Online Advisor has really helped me in my transition from on-campus to online. I love that I can create my own schedule. It makes it so easy to work and learn at the same time. It’s also so interactive for an online program. I was expecting the professors to be very hands-off, but it’s the opposite—they’re attentive, professional, and knowledgeable. I have learned so much in this program that I take into my job every single day.

What advice would you give to someone who’s thinking about applying to an online program at LIM College?
Check out LIM’s social media pages or reach out to alumni or current students. You’ll find the thing that makes LIM great is how much they care about every student that walks in their door or logs in.
