Intro Title
Part of LIM’s recently launched Business of Cannabis program, this class explores both the recreational and medicinal sides of the industry and gives students the tools and knowledge to be successful in this rapidly growing business.

“As the cannabis industry evolves, the success of cannabis-focused businesses becomes important to the community as well as the culture,” says Professor Ellie Alvarez, instructor for Cannabis and Retail.

The course is designed to provide detailed insight and lessons from a cannabis professional’s perspective and experiences. The content speaks to a wide range of students seeking the educational opportunity to gain deeper knowledge about the entire process of opening a cannabis business.

The class also focuses on rebranding in the industry, such as reserving the term ‘dispensary’ for medicinal use, and moving to terms like ‘stores’ and ‘shops’ for recreational use. Students also learn about essential retail functions, like assortment planning and store layout for cannabis companies.

“Becoming a trained professional in cannabis and retail will allow the future cannabis professionals to get in-depth insight into the store opening process, compliance, operations, merchandising, and more,” continues Professor Alvarez.
