Intro Title
Three students awarded for demonstrated commitment to a career in licensing

Rising junior Clay Lute and rising senior Shaina Hershberg have been selected to receive Licensing International 2021 Scholarships in the amount of $5,000, sponsored by clothing and fabric manufacturer Handcraft. LIM graduate student Daliya Khalikova also received a $2,500 scholarship.

These generous scholarships were awarded to the students in recognition of academic achievement, leadership, and a demonstrated interest in licensing as a career. The three also earned complimentary Licensing International memberships, which grants access to ongoing educational sessions and networking events.

Licensing is giving a third party the legal opportunity to use a brand's intellectual property. An example from the fashion world would be Walt Disney granting Uniqlo a license for Uniqlo to create apparel that features Disney trademarked characters, such as Mickey Mouse or Goofy.

Marketing, Management, and Finance professor Robyn Reitano—whose Business Law class explores the field of licensing—says the following: "I strongly believe this class is one of the many offerings that separates LIM from so many colleges. Many of my students have claimed to be considering changing their career plans to possibly pursue a path in licensing.”
