Knowing she was interested in a fashion career, and seeing promotions for Fashion Academy—LIM College's pre-college program—Nicole from North Carolina used the summer of her senior year in high school to preview a college-level fashion education in New York. Now, she is pursing her bachelor's degree, already thriving off the energy of the city and the community she's found in her first year at LIM.
How did you first hear about LIM Fashion Academy?
I learned about the program mostly through emails! LIM had always been one of the schools I had in mind while considering colleges, so I'd signed up for emails. From those, I learned about Fashion Academy, which really piqued my interest.
What was your Fashion Academy experience like? What workshops did you take?
It was a creatively satisfying experience. I took Fashion Merchandising, Marketing & Branding and Fashion Design Studio, so I made both a brand and a dress! It gave me insights into what I'd like to do for my future career. The workshops not only helped me prepare for what I'd be doing in college, but also along my profesional path.

What was the process of applying to LIM like?
It was easy and simple. I had procrastinated applying to college, but once I applied to LIM, I got accepted almost immediately with many opportunities opening up, including receiving an invite to the Honors Program.
What has your experience as an LIM student been like so far?
I love it at LIM. New York is somewhere I've always wanted to be, and the campus plus the community here are amazing. During high school, I felt like I wasn't able to fully express myself, but LIM really creates an accepting environment where you can be who you want. It's also very easy to get involved in clubs at LIM. Academically, I get personalized help whenever I need it, and I've had an amazing time so far.
What are the advantages of studying fashion in New York City?
Studying fashion in New York prepares you for the fast pace of this industry! LIM is also very network based, and its location opens up so many internship opportunities. I can't wait to start making connections in the industry and exploring my career options.
