For everyone’s safety, Fall 2020 has been largely forced online. So, how are LIM students continuing to secure internships and find companies to work with? One example took place October 15 and 16, as LIM’s Office of Career and Internship Services (CIS) hosted its first Virtual Career Fair series event via Handshake.
The networking and recruiting experience was transformed to be virtual, which was for the better in many ways. Attendance and engagement for this event were through the roof. About double the number of students attended this virtual Career Fair, compared to the Spring 2020 in-person fair, with 608 interactions recorded between LIM students and employers in fashion and its related fields.
Additionally, each student’s Career Fair experience was personalized, allowing them to make the most of their time in the event. In the virtual space of Handshake, LIM students were able to book one-on-one time or group sessions with employers. They were able to connect with them more easily and engagingly without waiting in lines and standing in crowds at booths.
The CIS team also hosted various workshops to help students further develop their career-building skills. Among the workshops provided were resume review sessions. Each student could work on making changes to their resume with guidance and critiques from CIS staff, to make the resume stand out when given to a specific employer.
