After previously needing to pause her LIM studies due to external circumstances, Kiesha returned to LIM a decade later to pursue her bachelor's degree online. As part of the College's Fashion Media program, she's enhanced her creative marketing skills, interned in fashion PR, and been an active virtual member of the Cosmetics Club, all while as a working professional.

What made you choose to earn your degree online with LIM?
My LIM journey actually began in 2009, as I was finishing my associate degree in Fashion Merchandising at Genesee Community College. I toured LIM during a class trip to New York City, and it immediately felt like my dream school. After that, I began attending part-time.

Life circumstances led me to pause my studies and start building my career in retail management, but working as an essential worker during the pandemic made me rethink my career path. Realizing corporate fashion required a bachelor's degree, and feeling somewhat stuck in my current roles, drove me to want to return to LIM through the school's online program, which had started since I last enrolled. Then, I could balance work and academics.

Tell us about your major and why you chose it. What are you learning in your program?
I chose Fashion Media because of my passion for storytelling, writing, and media culture. It felt like the best way to turn my creativity into a career!

My program focuses on digital storytelling within the fashion industry. Courses in marketing, art history, global media, writing, and digital design have strengthened both my creative and analytical skills. I’ve also gained experience using Adobe programs and emerging AI tools, helping prepare me for modern fashion and media careers.

What is the online student experience at LIM like?
Academically, LIM's online program has been a great fit, since I work full time and live outside New York City. While courses are fast-paced, they’ve helped me become more organized and disciplined. My professors have been accessible, tutoring support is available, and being an LIM student led me to secure a role as a Fashion PR Intern with the agency Rodeo & Madison. Through that internship, I was able to assist during Fashion Week. Having volunteered at Fashion Week years ago, it was exciting to return in a professional role supporting client relations. It gave me valuable industry exposure and helped me hone my career focus.

I also joined the Cosmetics Club in 2023 and enjoyed connecting with students who share my passion for beauty and experience student life virtually.

How is LIM helping you work toward your professional goals?
LIM has helped build my confidence and prepare me for a competitive job market. I’ve learned how to channel my creativity into professional skills that make me more marketable for corporate beauty and fashion roles.
