Re-Imagining the Future

LIM College is actively preparing for a return to campus operations and learning in August 2020. We will first welcome back staff and faculty, followed by the return of students -- in a modified format -- in September. We will begin the Fall 2020 semester on September 8 and end the semester on December 18.

COVID-19 has transformed our world. Therefore, the way we teach, learn, and gather must evolve accordingly. New measures such as social distancing, the use of face masks, enhanced cleaning protocols, and health assessments will be our ‘new normal.’ Safety, flexibility and resiliency are the guiding principles behind the decisions that we have made, and will continue to make together, in shared responsibility.

Nothing is more important than protecting the safety and well-being of our entire community. We are firm in our commitment to begin and end the Fall 2020 semester on time, but we will do so in strict adherence to all federal, state and local requirements and guidelines.

LIM is committed to giving our students the flexibility to continue their education according to their personal need, comfort, and safety. Our highly flexible “Hybrid In-Person” and “Hybrid Virtual” modalities will let students select, on a course-by-course basis, the option(s) that make the most sense for them. Some will choose to come to campus part of the time and participate virtually at other times. Some will choose to do all their class meetings virtually. Our offerings will provide the flexibility students need to continue their education without interruption.

LIM College is New York Strong! In the 80+ years since we were founded, the world has changed considerably and we’ve faced many challenges. It’s how we respond during times of challenge that demonstrate the resiliency and strength that will carry us forward.

There have been three distinct and cross-functional groups working to manage the return to on- ground operations for Fall 2020. They are the:

1) Reimagining the Future (RTF) group
2) Fall Continuity Committee
3) Reopening Committee

As the College continues to transition from fully remote operations back to on-ground operations, our community will continue to see the evidence of all the work being done by all three groups to implement new policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of our campus community. The College is also committed to continuing to work with state, federal, and public health authorities to monitor the situation and pivot and adapt as necessary.

What’s Next
This is a fluid time and we are committed to providing updates as the situation evolves. The closer we get to the start of the semester, the more we will know, so this will be an ongoing dialogue. To that end, an on-campus health and safety training program will launch in August. This training will provide comprehensive instruction on community expectations while on campus. All students, faculty and staff who plan to return to campus and/or use on-campus resources for Fall 2020 are required to attend this health and safety training.
